“It is true, I have been to Parma recently and I am interested, but I can’t say for sure that it will go through.”
Piazza is one of several possible investors expected to make a bid for Parma, which was relegated from Italy's Serie A last season amid a crippling economic crisis that left the team unable to pay its players.
Now the club will go to auction, where the initial bid could be as low as Є10 million ($11.2 million), - the catch being that the new owners must also pay off its Є74 million ($83.4 million) sporting debt.
Baseball’s all-time home-run hitting catcher (396), Piazza spent the majority of his 15-year career with the Dodgers and Mets, while also representing Italy in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.
His love of heritage extends to soccer as well - specifically Serie A club Palermo, of which he is an avowed fan. He also supports the Italian national team, traveling to Brazil last year to watch the Azzurri in person during the 2014 World Cup.
