Former England cricketer Steve Harmison has been hired as the new manager of his hometown soccer team which plays in the ninth tier of the English game.
Ashington, located near Newcastle in the north of the country, said on Sunday on their website that the 36-year-old Harmison has been appointed with immediate effect as part of a three-man coaching team that chairman Ian Lavery says has "a wealth of experience in the sporting world".
Harmison played as a centre-back for the club as a teenager before giving up soccer to focus on cricket.
Harmison played 63 Tests and 58 one-day internationals as a fast bowler for England, and was part of two Ashes-winning teams. He retired from cricket in 2013.
